Emir, a retired military working dog, visited the Military & Veterans Programs office March 1, causing people all over Centennial Campus to momentarily break from their work to go see this canine “rock star.”
The German Shepherd, formerly assigned to the U.S. Air Force’s 447th Expeditionary Group, Kirkland Air Force Base (AFB), New Mexico, served as a dual-purpose working dog, performing explosives detection and canine patrol.
In a celebrated military career that includes four deployments, Emir is credited with saving more than 1,000 service members’ lives. He’s also been honored with military decorations and a special commendation for duty supporting former President George W. Bush, then Commander in Chief, while visiting Sather AFB in Baghad, Iraq, in 2008
